The first solar farm under Ireland's Small-Scale Renewable Energy Support Scheme (SRESS) has been energized in County Cork, generating enough energy to power around 150 homes. Developed by farmer Sean Keating, the 650 kW Meadhill Solar farm allows for sheep grazing around and underneath the solar panels, showcasing the potential for dual land use. Keating's 15-year power purchase agreement with Flogas sets an example for other farmers and landowners to explore similar opportunities, with support from PV Generation Ltd. and the Irish government's grants for rooftop solar projects under the Targeted Agricultural Modernisation Scheme (TAMS). This project reflects the growing interest in microgeneration solar projects among farmers in Ireland, providing a sustainable solution to the energy crisis and rising electricity prices.
