Engineers have constructed "The Esky Lid," an 80-tonne mechanical barrier to protect Brisbane's new underground tunnels from flooding, making it the deepest point of the Cross River Rail network. This lid will seal off the station's main entrance during intense flooding, ensuring flood-proofing up to 10.3 meters above street level with a 1-in-10,000-year probability. The $19 billion project is set to be completed by 2029, delaying passenger services until then.
