The Uganda Wildlife Authority and Wildlife Conservation Society have signed a 10-year agreement to establish a Conservation Management Partnership for the Ishasha Sector of Queen Elizabeth Protected Area in the Greater Virunga Landscape. The partnership aims to improve wildlife protection, habitat restoration, tourism development, and reduce human-wildlife conflict in the area, with a key focus on restoring the declining lion population through translocation if scientifically justified. By restoring ecological integrity, securing wildlife, strengthening tourism, and involving local communities, the partnership seeks to achieve lasting conservation benefits for the region.
