Low-cost catalyst innovation boosts green hydrogen production

Researchers have developed a low-cost method to increase green hydrogen production using upgraded titanium dioxide. The new catalyst, with modifications including the addition of nickel atoms and shaping into tiny hollow spheres, showed significantly higher hydrogen production compared to untreated titanium dioxide. The system maintained performance over repeated testing, suggesting stability over time. The study highlights the potential for cheaper, widely available materials to reduce the cost of producing green hydrogen, offering a practical direction for future work in scaling up hydrogen production. The research, published in the Applied Catalysis B: Environment and Energy journal, could lead to more efficient and cost-effective hydrogen production without relying on expensive precious metals like platinum.
