Progress in climate action since the Paris Agreement has lowered the trajectory of global warming to 2.3°C if current national commitments are fully delivered, but the world is still on track to exceed the 1.5°C threshold. The next phase of climate action must focus on delivering on existing promises, increasing ambition, and accelerating the transition to renewable energy to close the gap between current plans and what the science requires. The importance of renewable energy, climate financing initiatives, adaptation, and international cooperation is highlighted, with a focus on cheaper finance, reforms to development banks, and greater private investment in developing countries. The upcoming Secretary General's Climate Summit at the UN Headquarters aims to accelerate the transition to renewable energy, unlock finance for climate solutions, and protect vulnerable populations through collaboration between governments, development banks, businesses, finance, and civil society. Solutions Dialogues during the summit will focus on accelerating action on various climate-related topics to turn existing commitments into action and accelerate the delivery of climate solutions.
