The Marinus Link project in Latrobe Valley aims to strengthen Australia's main grid and provide long-term certainty to major industrial users in Tasmania. It will allow Tasmania to access cheaper renewables from the mainland and provide the mainland with deep storage from Tasmania's hydropower. The project is expected to create around 2,400 jobs and $2.4 billion of investment, supporting local economies and attracting investment in renewable energy industries. The Tasmanian Clean Energy Centre of Excellence will provide training opportunities for local people to build careers in the clean energy sector. The project aims to have tangible benefits for communities on both sides of the Bass Strait.
