In 2025, the Global Center on Adaptation (GCA) advanced its mission to enhance climate resilience by emphasizing local leadership, youth engagement, political momentum, finance, and practical solutions. The GCA’s strategy prioritized the development of resilient food systems and urban infrastructure, particularly focusing on food security and rural well-being, setting the stage for robust implementation in 2026.
Organizations across India, Kenya, Myanmar, and the Philippines are implementing nature-based strategies that not only improve water management and address flood risks but also empower vulnerable urban communities. These initiatives are being coordinated through the Urban Resilience Strategic Exchange (URSE) platform, which facilitates collaboration among funders, city governments, researchers, and practitioners, and will be showcased at the Resilient Cities Forum.
In Southern Africa, conservation efforts led by the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW), Ecoexist Trust, and Elephant-Human Relations Aid (EHRA) utilize technology to mitigate human-elephant conflicts, promoting coexistence strategies that encourage sustainable practices rather than focusing solely on economic development. Meanwhile, Strong Roots Congo is developing a 1-million-hectare biodiversity corridor in the Democratic Republic of Congo, securing 23 community forest concessions covering nearly 600,000 hectares. This initiative aims to rectify past displacements, enhance conservation, and support local livelihoods by involving communities in forest management.
