Food waste is a significant contributor to the climate crisis, generating methane emissions in landfills and leading to resource wastage and deforestation. Tackling this issue is crucial for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and achieving climate goals. Initiatives funded by the UNEP, such as improved waste management and the use of black soldier flies for organic material recycling, have shown promising results in various countries. However, despite international commitments, progress in reducing food waste has been slow, highlighting the urgent need for more action to address this pressing climate solution.
