Researchers from Norway, Romania, Poland, Ireland, and Denmark are collaborating on the development of a new optical sensor system called STARDUST to monitor multiple pesticides in real time in surface water and groundwater. This technology aims to address the impact of extreme weather events on water quality by detecting rapid variations in pesticide levels, caused by floods, droughts, and torrential rains. The project seeks to fill critical gaps in environmental protection and public health preparedness, providing climate solutions experts with a tool to better understand and mitigate the effects of pesticides leaching into water sources.
