Researchers at Florida Atlantic University are developing an AI-guided system, funded by the EPA, to remove excess phosphorus from freshwater systems in order to prevent harmful algal blooms (HABs) and protect water quality. This innovative technology aims to address the growing threat of HABs in lakes, rivers, and coastal waters in the United States, which have significant impacts on ecosystems, public health, and economies. By targeting a key factor in HABs, this project offers a promising solution to combat the spread of these harmful blooms and mitigate their detrimental effects on the environment.
