ArcelorMittal has committed $900 million to three renewable energy projects in India, specifically a 250MW wind facility, a 300MW solar facility, and a 300MWh battery storage unit in Bachau, Gujarat. These initiatives aim to reduce CO2 emissions by 1.59 million tons annually and enhance the company’s renewable capacity by 1GW. This investment is part of a broader strategy to expand renewable energy sources, including projects in Brazil and Argentina, which collectively will generate 3.3GW of power.

In Argentina, the inauguration of the Circunvalación Avenue solar highway in San Juan features 36 solar panel arrays, each with a capacity of 5 kW, designed to power the highway’s nighttime lighting. The project created over 80 jobs during its construction phase, underscoring its local economic impact.

Meanwhile, in Sierra Leone, West Africa Blue’s partnership with Verra aims to implement a carbon offset project involving 124 communities, with plans to sell carbon credits by the end of 2026. However, this initiative has faced criticism from local residents concerned about the negative impacts of such projects, highlighting the need for transparency and community engagement. As these developments unfold, it is vital to monitor their progress closely to ensure alignment with both environmental goals and community needs.
