The INNOBATT project, led by the Fraunhofer Institute, has successfully developed a lithium-free, high-power aluminum-graphite-dual-ion battery system tailored for energy storage applications. This innovative battery technology achieves energy densities of 160 Wh/kg and power densities exceeding 9 kW/kg, offering a sustainable, cost-effective, and non-flammable solution for grid energy storage, leveraging readily available materials.

In parallel, CATL is spearheading advancements in marine electrification by collaborating with shipping partners to provide battery solutions for over 900 vessels, aiming to introduce zero-carbon electric ships within three years. Their focus on sodium-ion battery technology is critical to overcoming barriers in long-range electric shipping.

Hyundai is actively enhancing its hydrogen fuel cell initiatives across the U.S., Korea, and Europe, not only targeting public transportation but also extending its efforts to fleets and port logistics, thereby broadening the scope of its contributions to the transition to renewable hydrogen.

The International Energy Agency (IEA) cautions that a slow transition to clean energy could result in an estimated loss of 1.3 million jobs by 2035, while a faster transition may create job opportunities in various sectors. Furthermore, the IEA highlights potential skill shortages as a crucial concern. The Belém Action Mechanism, established at COP30, aims to ensure a just transition, involving trade unions to support workers in fossil fuel sectors as the energy landscape evolves.
