Alithic, a spinoff from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, has developed a carbon-negative supplementary cementitious material (SCM) by pulling carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and mixing it with coal ash and other industrial wastes. This innovative product can replace traditional Portland cement, providing significant environmental benefits while transforming waste streams into profitable solutions for the construction industry.

In April 2024, Colombia will host a pivotal global conference involving 24 countries, including major fossil fuel producers such as Australia and Mexico, aimed at accelerating the phase-out of fossil fuels. This event will bring together governments, experts, industry leaders, and Indigenous communities to collaboratively develop a roadmap for a just transition that considers the needs of vulnerable populations.

Skyven Technologies has launched its Arcturus steam-generating heat pump in Dallas, Texas, which captures waste heat to produce boiler-quality steam. Additionally, Uganda’s Kiira Motors Corporation is embarking on a 30-day, 13,000 km journey across six African nations to showcase the Kayoola Electric Coach 13M, which has a range of 500 km and a top speed of 100 km/h. This expedition highlights the potential for local innovation in sustainable transportation and the importance of enhancing electric mobility solutions in the region.
