Pilot Procurement Uses Collective Demand to Unlock Investment In Low-Emissions Chemicals

The Center for Green Market Activation and RMI have launched a pilot procurement for low-emissions chemicals, specifically targeting low-emissions ethylene production. This initiative brings together leading companies from various industries to collectively signal demand for emissions reductions in the chemicals value chain. By combining demand aggregation with a book and claim system, the pilot procurement enables producers to generate environmental attribute certificates associated with low-emissions ethylene production, providing a flexible pathway for downstream companies to support low-emissions production. The goal is to catalyze and scale the uptake of low-carbon goods and services within carbon-intensive industries, paving the way for future aggregated procurements of low-emissions chemical attributes.
