Smart Commercial Energy and Over Easy Solar are collaborating to launch a prefabricated vertical rooftop solar system in Australia, specifically designed for buildings where traditional rooftop solar is not feasible due to load-bearing limits or design constraints. This innovative system features pre-assembled bifacial panels that can be easily installed, with the capability to complement existing rooftop systems by shifting energy generation towards the morning and afternoon hours, thereby optimizing performance and economic benefits. Over Easy has installed over 1.3 MW of its vertical photovoltaic units in approximately 40 buildings across 13 countries, gathering essential data on performance and structural impact.
In a notable advancement, researchers in China have achieved a record efficiency of 31.13% in perovskite-silicon tandem solar cells by utilizing a novel 2D seeding agent, which enhances charge transport and stability.
Additionally, the U.S. electric power sector is projected to see solar and wind sources contribute 21% to total generation by 2027, amid a decline in the share of traditional energy sources like natural gas and coal. Furthermore, Masdar has reached financial close on the Ibri III Solar Project in Oman, which includes a 500 MW solar PV plant and a 100 MWh battery storage system, aiming to power 33,000 homes and reduce CO2 emissions by 505,000 tonnes annually. This project marks a significant milestone as Oman’s first large-scale solar and battery storage initiative, aligning with the country’s goal to source 30% of its electricity from renewables by 2030.
