In Puerto Rico, rooftop solar has become the second-largest power source, surpassing natural gas and accounting for 20% of the territory’s generation capacity. Notably, 81% of new generating capacity added from 2016 to 2025 is attributed to rooftop solar systems. This growth is crucial for grid resilience, with over 171,000 households adopting battery storage solutions.

Meanwhile, a decade-long fishing ban on the Yangtze River has significantly increased fish biomass, species richness, and improved water quality, benefitting endangered species such as the Yangtze finless porpoise. Although the ban’s extension until 2030 is seen as essential, challenges like river fragmentation from dams remain. The effectiveness of this policy highlights the potential for significant ecological recovery through strong environmental governance.
