Tuesday, March 31 2026 Climate Solutions Update

Adani Green Energy Ltd. has successfully commissioned 951 MW of solar and hybrid capacity in western India, specifically in Baiya, Rajasthan, and Khavda, Gujarat, with 926 MW attributed to solar projects and 25 MW to hybrid initiatives. These projects have begun commercial operations as of March 30, 2026, enhancing AGEL’s total renewable generation capacity to 18,933.3 MW and significantly contributing to India’s renewable energy objectives.

In the United States, efforts are underway to repower older wind farms, potentially unlocking an additional 161 gigawatts of capacity by replacing outdated turbines. This initiative aims to more than double existing wind capacity by 2024 and is crucial for enhancing efficiency, minimizing land use, and addressing societal and regulatory challenges tied to the development process, which requires careful negotiation between communities and developers.

Meanwhile, South Australia is on track to achieve 100% net renewables by next year, with approximately 75% of its electricity currently sourced from wind and solar. The state faces a doubling of peak load driven by industrial growth, necessitating new transmission projects like the south-east and Northern Transmission lines to connect generation capacity with increasing demand. Furthermore, solar energy is projected to meet over 20% of global energy needs by 2030, contingent upon the installation of solar panels on less than 1% of the Earth’s surface.
