Friday, March 6 2026 Climate Solutions Update

UNSW researchers, in collaboration with Aussie Solar Batteries, are developing AI-driven energy management platforms aimed at enhancing virtual power plant deployment across Australia. This initiative, supported by the Australian government’s TRaCE program, is scheduled to continue until the end of 2026. The project focuses on improving grid stability and reducing costs through advanced forecasting, demand-side management, and optimization algorithms.

In Europe and South America, PPC Group, METLEN, and Jinko ESS are partnering on over 4.5 GW of battery energy storage system projects, designed to stabilize electricity systems and optimize renewable energy management. These projects are vital for enhancing grid reliability and facilitating the transition to cleaner energy sources.

In Gippsland, Victoria, the Blue Mackerel offshore wind farm project is undergoing a federal environmental assessment for the installation of up to 70 wind turbines. The project aims to minimize environmental impacts while addressing community concerns regarding its visual effects, underscoring its significance in reducing reliance on coal and promoting renewable energy solutions.

As Asia advances towards institutionalizing climate adaptation strategies, there is an increasing emphasis on strengthening governance systems to effectively mobilize climate adaptation finance, ensuring resilience against climate-related challenges.
