The MTerra solar project in the Philippines is progressing towards becoming the world’s largest solar-battery hybrid project, with a planned capacity of 3.5 GW of solar energy and 4.5 GWh of battery storage. The first phase, which includes 2.5 GW of solar capacity and 3.3 MWh of battery storage, is expected to be completed later this year, with phase two already underway to further increase capacity. The project plans to export 85 MW of power to the local grid, emphasizing the potential for large-scale renewable energy solutions in the region.

In Kenya, a national carbon registry has been launched, supported by Germany’s €2.4 million investment, to enhance climate finance and ensure transparency in carbon markets. This registry aims to track carbon credit projects, promoting local community benefits while aligning with international standards to prevent double counting and maintain integrity under the Paris Climate Agreement.

Furthermore, Octopus Energy Generation’s $1 billion investment in Californian clean technology focuses on carbon removal and renewable energy projects. This investment contributes to California’s overarching goal of achieving 100% renewable energy by 2045, supporting a transition away from fossil fuels and fostering innovation in clean energy solutions.
