Neoen Australia has commenced construction of the Goyder battery project in South Australia, utilizing Tesla’s innovative Megablock technology to create a battery with a capacity of 226 MW and 866 MWh. While this project will support BHP’s Olympic Dam mining operations, it also plays a crucial role in Australia’s broader energy transition, contributing to the goal of achieving 100% net renewables by 2027. Notably, the Goyder battery has planning approval for an expanded capacity of up to 900 MW and 3,600 MWh, potentially positioning it as part of Australia’s largest hybrid energy project.
In parallel, Germany is investing over €22 million as part of a larger €103 million initiative to support Moll Batterien’s sodium-ion battery plant in Bavaria, which is expected to start operations in 2026 with an initial capacity of 1 GWh per year, creating 126 jobs and training positions.
The US offshore wind industry is advancing in states such as Rhode Island, New York, and Virginia, despite facing challenges. Meanwhile, Chile is engaging in collaborations with Norway and Denmark to integrate offshore wind energy with aquaculture, enhancing sustainability within the sector. Additionally, a global survey conducted by CDR.fyi and the University of Oxford is underway to assess the capacities of carbon removal suppliers, contributing vital data for the State of Carbon Dioxide Removal report.
