Wednesday, December 10 2025 Climate Solutions Update

The Cazombo Photovoltaic Park in Angola, Africa’s largest off-grid solar-plus-storage project, has commenced operation, providing 25.40 MW of solar power and 75.26 MWh of battery storage to over 136,000 residents. This initiative is part of Angola’s Rural Electrification Project and is financed by British Standard Chartered Bank and the German export agency Euler Hermes, highlighting the project’s international collaboration.

The UN Environment Programme recently recognized five climate leaders as part of its 2025 Champions of the Earth initiative, including Pacific Islands Students Fighting Climate Change, Supriya Sahu, Mariam Issoufou Architects, and Imazon from Brazil. Their innovative approaches address climate justice and forest protection, underscoring the global commitment to sustainable solutions.

In coastal regions, Blue Ventures has secured a $62 million donation from MacKenzie Scott to support small-scale fishers and coastal communities. This funding aims to bolster community-led conservation efforts, impacting 5 million people and bringing 200,000 km² of carbon-rich seas under local stewardship, thereby enhancing both ecological sustainability and food security.

Furthermore, organizations in India, Kenya, Myanmar, and the Philippines are implementing nature-based strategies to improve urban resilience and water management. These initiatives, showcased at the Resilient Cities Forum, emphasize community leadership and collaboration, aiming to create inclusive, climate-resilient urban environments.
