Wednesday, November 12 2025 Climate Solutions Update

A team of scientists from CMCC has enhanced a machine learning-based prediction system for European heatwaves, improving forecast efficiency and accuracy by providing predictions 4 to 7 weeks in advance. This study, published in *Nature Communications Earth & Environment*, underscores the potential of AI in climate science.

Brazil and Germany have been appointed as the first co-chairs of the Coalition for High Ambition Multilevel Partnerships (CHAMP) until 2027, focusing on integrating multilevel governance into national climate plans. The initiative aims to train 6,000 public officials by 2028 under the Plan to Accelerate the Solution (PAS), with Germany’s significant investment in climate and biodiversity projects supporting these efforts.

The Mangrove Breakthrough initiative seeks to mobilize $4 billion for the conservation of 15 million hectares of mangroves by 2030, emphasizing the integration of local economies in conservation efforts. The initiative is led by the Chilean NGO Ambition Loop, which is crucial for sustaining partnerships and infrastructure development. Over $750 million has already been mobilized for mangrove-positive investments since 2020.

At COP30, there is a strong emphasis on sustainable cooling solutions to address greenhouse gas emissions, alongside innovations like Alisa Luangrath’s AI-powered irrigation system in Laos. However, the environmental footprint of AI technologies, particularly in data centers, remains a growing concern that warrants attention as the push for climate action continues.
